TWF’s Team Tuesdays… on Tumblr.
This week, we’re sharing a weekly tradition of ours. Every Monday morning, we have a huge team meeting (of our NYC contingent) called the All Hands On Deck Meeting!
And well obviously—why wouldn’t we dress in a nautical theme for such an occasion?
Exactly.
That’s Cyndi, Hilliary, Allison, Liza holding our TWF mascot Lucy, Jess, and Paige—all nautical’d out.
Happy Tuesday everyone!

Meet Paige Hogan, TWF Graphic Design Intern.
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Awkward.
How do you think others would describe you in 3 words?
Awkward?
What are your go-to blogs for fashion & tech news info?
I’ve subscribed to a lot of places like R29, Glamour, Teen Vogue, etc. just so I have things to read in my inbox throughout the day to have a brief mental check out. Other than that, when I’m exploring websites like Designspiration or Dribbble I normally see ads for tech websites and check them out that way. There, too—a lot of people who create those trendy apps, usually create more than one so I try to look up the company or creator to see what else is out there.
Pick one: music, food, or movies.
Music.
If you could listen to one artist forever, who would it be?
Calvin Harris.
What do you love most about working with Third Wave Fashion?
I haven’t been here for too long, but I really enjoy all the people who work here and can’t wait to get to know them more! I already feel like I can be a lot more creative here in terms of doing design work, and I’m pretty excited about it.
Who’s your style or business crush?
I hate to be like, “I love looking at men’s fashion,” but seriously I love looking at men’s fashion. It’s just so cool and clean. I shop with my boyfriend or walk in to places like Top Man or Ernest Alexander and just wish that they made bags like that for women. There’s just something about the simplicity of their style that I enjoy, so don’t be surprised if you catch me reading a GQ whether it be for the fashion or clean typography.
What’s your favorite startup right now, and why?
Well, I’m not sure if they are still technically a startup right now, but I signed up for Instagrid a little while back because I use Instagram about 3 times a day and I wanted a way for people to view it with out having the hassel of going through all my tweets. The site is extremely clean and straight forward—this is my instagrid: http://instagrid.me/p_razzed. The company that designed it is called Social Print Studio and they also came up with Printstagram, so you can turn your Instagrams in to tshirts, memory boxes, stickers, posters, tiny booklets, and prints.
Who inspires you—whether in business or in life?
Anyone who can openly speak their mind, whether it’s good or bad. Some of these people can come off as catty or standoffish, but I admire the honesty. We all need a reality check from time to time, it’s what makes us better.
Where do you see yourself in 7 years?
Hopefully, I will have opened my own agency that doubles in both visual and verbal communication for companies that are just starting out, or in desperate need of a makeover. As much as I would love this company to be set up in Munich or Milan, I’m just hoping I’ll still be in NYC at the very least.

That’s it for now.

Check back next Monday for another week of events.

Be in the know, be on the go, and stay fashionable!

TWF’S TEAM TUESDAYS ON TUMBLR.
Meet James Walker, our kick ass CTO.
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Walkah: Reasonable. Patient. Kind.
How do you think others would describe you in 3 words?
Walkah: Serial troublemaker. Nerd.
What are your go-to blogs for fashion & tech news info?
Walkah: For tech: Read Write Web, The Next Web, and The Changelog. For fashion? Um. Third Wave Fashion!
Pick one: music, food, or movies. Always music. If you could listen to one artist forever, who would it be?
Walkah: Most people who know me, know I’ve had a serious man-crush on Mike Doughty for almost 20 years (I’m the top Google hit for “mike doughty fan boy”). I love pretty much everything he’s ever done. That said, with last week’s tragic passing of Adam “MCA” Yauch, I feel compelled to mention the Beastie Boys. As someone wise once said, it’s never not the right time for the Beastie Boys. Really, though, life with just one artist? No thanks.
What do you love most about working with Third Wave Fashion?
Walkah: It’s a fun, new experience for me. I know little to nothing about the fashion industry, so I’m learning new things. Truth is, though, it’s the first time I’ve ever worked with a company where I was the only guy. It’s fun to see gender imbalance from the other direction ;-)
Who’s your business crush?
Walkah: I have always loved and admired indie/solo developers. It takes so much to build a product or company on your own and I’m always amazed by people who manage to do it. Though he recently formed a company, for a long time it was Buster Benson, who seems to find a way to turn things he finds personally interesting into engaging products that other people use.
What’s your favorite startup right now, and why?
Walkah: I don’t know if they qualify, but I really admire what The OpenPhoto Project is doing right now. Photo sharing is obviously a hot topic (kind of has been since Flickr launched), but I respect the fact that OpenPhoto is competing with pure open source software and giving users ultimate control over where their photos are stored.
Oh, and in Canada we say “favourite”.
Who inspires you—whether in business or in life?
Walkah: There is a long list of people I respect, admire, and try to emulate—but if you’re talking pure inspiration, I’d have to say my kids. They provide so much purpose and meaning in my life. They keep me in line, keep me motivated and, while it may be cliché, I learn way more from them than they learn from me.
Where do you see yourself in 7 years?
Walkah: I’ll be travelling the world on the Third Wave corporate jet, of course! If for some reason that doesn’t work out, I really don’t have a backup plan.

But I’ll go with music, I love live music! I’m seeing The Black Keys concert tonight. If you could listen to one artist forever, who would it be?HL: I don’t think I could ever choose one artist; I’m too eclectic with the music I listen to. I have playlists that contain Florence and the Machine, Sia, Coldplay, Fleetwood Mac, Donna Summer, DMB, Ace of Base, Pretty Lights, Ingrid Michaelson, to name a few all in one. I’m also a huge fan of movie scores; it’s what I listen to for serenity or when I need to focus while studying or working. What do you love most about working with Third Wave Fashion?HL: The feeling of community I get from the rest of the TWF team, as well as each day I learn something new about fashion + tech. Who’s your style or business crush?HL: For Style AND Business, the Olsen twins. I grew up in the 90’s watching them—since Full House to now. They’re two of the top influential people in fashion. What’s your favorite startup right now, and why?HL: For fashion, Kaleidoscope is a interesting concept introducing people to a new way to discover and shop fashion. Who inspires you— whether in business or in life?HL: My parents, each on their own. My mom is one of the most giving and selfless people I know. She helps me grow as a person daily. My dad is an entrepreneur and I grew up inspired by his motivation for success. Seeing him grow his company over 25+ years is what made me want to work with startups.Where do you see yourself in 7 years?HL: I honestly have no idea. I’m on a constant life roller-coaster right now, and I like the mystery of what the future holds. But I hope to be happy and continue to travel the world.

JS: My coworkers! We laugh our way through everything and we’re infinitely more successful for doing so. Also, the fashion tech space is heaven for a research junkie—something new is always out there waiting to be discovered.
Who’s your style or business crush?
JS: Sienna Miller will forever be my style crush. As for business, hands down our founder Liza—I mean, have you met her?! *swoon*
What’s your favorite startup right now, and why?
JS: I’m sort of obsessed with Cut On Your Bias right now. I really respect the fusion of fashion design and technology and I think their branding is gorgeous. AND I think the name is genius.
Who inspires you— whether in business or in life?
JS: Successful entrepreneurs who are in the business of doing what they’re passionate about and who are able to live with great freedom as a result. And a beach. I love a good beach.
Where do you see yourself in 7 years?
JS: In fashion/tech/art—I’m never leaving! The rest is tbd.
