Team Tuesday: Meet Leticia Domenech, Third Wave Fashion’s Editorial Intern

TWF: What do you always have with you?

LD: My iPhone (I know, typical), a pen + notebook (for when I want to take notes… old-school style), and matte lipstick.

TWF: When you were a kid what’d you want to be when you grew up?

LD: President of the United States. I’m not done growing up though.

TWF: Since you’re still growing up, what do you want to be now?

LD: A writer - focused on tech, media, cultural vehicles, revolutionary catalysts… and President of the United States.

TWF: What do you love?

LD: Spectacle. I love anything that forces people to gather around it and ask questions. Working in fashion tech allows me to do that on a day-to-day basis. It’s perfection.

TWF: What are your go-to blogs for fashion & tech news info?

LD: Fashionista, Mashable, TechCrunch, & BusinessInsider.

TWF: Who inspires you?

LD: My mom. I think we inspire each other. She’s always worked *super* hard to make sure we grew up in a home that we felt safe in and that we had the things we needed… even if some of those things were more wants than needs. My happiness and frustrations begin and end with her. Wait, is that bad? Scratch that last part.

TWF: Food. Do you have a favorite kind?

LD: Favorite kind: Latin-American, Spanish, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Brazilian… I love scouring Spanish Harlem, the Lower East Side and Washington Heights for dive spots where I can kick back, have a good drink, and feed till my heart’s content. Carb-counting goes out the window on those nights!

TWF: What do you want readers to know about you?

LD: As much as I love fashion, I love politics. There is no shortage of spectacle there either.

TWF: What are your goals with Third Wave Fashion?

LD: The short of it: I want to grow with the company.

The long of it: I want to continue to help shape the editorial/digital content persona of the company and I want to immerse myself in the business acumen set by our founder, Liza.

TWF: What do you love most about working with Third Wave Fashion?

LD: Oh man, Third Wave Fashion is really special. The women I work with and the environment we’ve created is nurturing and creative. I can’t imagine working anywhere else. Sorry, every other business in the world. 

TWF: Do you love living + working in the tech scene in New York City?

LD: YEAH! I grew up here. NYC courses through my veins and I’m loving that startups are choosing to grow their identities here. The personality of this metropolis certainly contributes to companies’ appeal and vigor.

Style crush is definitely Nicole Richie. Always!

What’s your favorite startup right now, and why?

Style Pilot—I love that they are catering to men, providing tailored style tips along with great banter.

Who/what inspires you—whether in business or in life?

My biggest inspirations are my friends and family. In business, definitely my Dad—watching him build a successful book of business over the years. In life, my Mom, my Sister, and my best friends. They are constantly encouraging me to follow my dreams and take that leap of faith.

Where do you see yourself in 7 years?

Successful, happy & hopefully still loving life in New York City!

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Awkward.

How do you think others would describe you in 3 words?

Awkward?

What are your go-to blogs for fashion & tech news info?

I’ve subscribed to a lot of places like R29, Glamour, Teen Vogue, etc. just so I have things to read in my inbox throughout the day to have a brief mental check out. Other than that, when I’m exploring websites like Designspiration or Dribbble I normally see ads for tech websites and check them out that way. There, too—a lot of people who create those trendy apps, usually create more than one so I try to look up the company or creator to see what else is out there.

Music.

If you could listen to one artist forever, who would it be?

Calvin Harris.

What do you love most about working with Third Wave Fashion?

I haven’t been here for too long, but I really enjoy all the people who work here and can’t wait to get to know them more! I already feel like I can be a lot more creative here in terms of doing design work, and I’m pretty excited about it.

Who’s your style or business crush?

I hate to be like, “I love looking at men’s fashion,” but seriously I love looking at men’s fashion. It’s just so cool and clean. I shop with my boyfriend or walk in to places like Top Man or Ernest Alexander and just wish that they made bags like that for women. There’s just something about the simplicity of their style that I enjoy, so don’t be surprised if you catch me reading a GQ whether it be for the fashion or clean typography.

What’s your favorite startup right now, and why?

Well, I’m not sure if they are still technically a startup right now, but I signed up for Instagrid a little while back because I use Instagram about 3 times a day and I wanted a way for people to view it with out having the hassel of going through all my tweets. The site is extremely clean and straight forward—this is my instagrid: http://instagrid.me/p_razzed. The company that designed it is called Social Print Studio and they also came up with Printstagram, so you can turn your Instagrams in to tshirts, memory boxes, stickers, posters, tiny booklets, and prints.

Who inspires you—whether in business or in life?

Anyone who can openly speak their mind, whether it’s good or bad. Some of these people can come off as catty or standoffish, but I admire the honesty. We all need a reality check from time to time, it’s what makes us better.

Where do you see yourself in 7 years?

Hopefully, I will have opened my own agency that doubles in both visual and verbal communication for companies that are just starting out, or in desperate need of a makeover. As much as I would love this company to be set up in Munich or Milan, I’m just hoping I’ll still be in NYC at the very least.

For fashion, I read The Cut, WhoWhatWear, Red Carpet Fashion Awards, and too many personal-style blogs to count.

For tech, I read Mashable and Business of Fashion.

Music. I love discovering new artists and seeing them perform. I think it’s part envy because I have no musical talent whatsoever.

If you could listen to one artist forever, who would it be?

It changes constantly. Right now I’d have to say Spoon or The Black Keys.

What do you love most about working with Third Wave Fashion?

The fashion tech space is an awesome field to work in. I learn so much every day at this job, and that’s saying a lot considering I’ve only worked here for a week!

Who’s your style or business crush?

I really admire the duo at WhoWhatWear, Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power, both as entrepreneurs and style gurus.

What’s your favorite startup right now, and why?

I’m intrigued by the new virtual closet, Stylitics. The website catalogues your closet and after entering your everyday outfits, it shows you how often you wear certain pieces. It’s taking us one step closer to having Cher’s closet from Clueless!

Who inspires you—whether in business or in life?

My grandmother, definitely. She was a single mother raising four children. She worked a full time job and was paid significantly less than her male coworkers. She stood up for herself and demanded equal pay, and I’ve always admired her bravery.

Where do you see yourself in 7 years?

Hopefully living in NYC and working in a fashion-related field with my trusty French Bulldog, Lola, by my side :)

What’s your favorite startup right now, and why?

My friend is hoping to start selling her homemade vintage shorts online—so keep your eyes peeled for that!

What do you love most about working with Third Wave Fashion?
Liza: The people. Since I got to pick the people I work with, I picked the most awesome people possible. And I’m inspired by all the entrepreneurs we get to meet every single day. I also just love the intersection between fashion and technology!

Who’s your business crush?
Liza: Richard Branson and Russell Simmons. I love how true they stayed true to their values when developing their businesses, how they weren’t afraid to make mistakes, and how they help other people be successful.

What’s your favorite startup right now, and why?
Liza: My favorite startup is always the one I’m working with at the time. I’m easily excited by cool things!

Who inspires you—whether in business or in life?
Liza: This may sound cliche, but I’m absolutely inspired by my daughter because she kicks ass at life and she does it with a smile.

Where do you see yourself in 7 years?
Liza: Living in Fancy Pants Manor and sailing on the SS Fancy Pants.

Tech Crush Thursday: Josh Clark

Josh Clark is an interaction designer specializing in mobile design strategy and user experience. Josh’s company Global Moxie, offers consulting and training to media companies, design agencies, and creative organizations to help them build mobile apps and websites.

Josh loves sharing his vast knowledge on mobile design strategy; he frequently speaks at International Technology Conferences and has written on the subject numerous times. He’s the author of the book Tapworthy: Designing Great iPhone Apps and is also a contributor for Net Magazine, where last month he wrote a controversial piece claiming “Nielsen is wrong on mobile.” Josh has even previously written for Mashable (e.g. “HOW TO: Develop iPhone Apps with Staying Power”). Forbes also just featured him in an article called “Seven Deadly Mobile Myths: Josh Clark Debunks the Desktop Paradigm and More.”

Josh is more than a tech nerd—he has a B.A. from Harvard, is passionate about exercise (he created the Couch-to-5K running program), and is one of our awesome Third Wave Fashion Advisors!

Our most recent tech crush is David Karp—the creative genius, CEO, and founder of Tumblr. Yes, we are Tumblr-ing about Tumblr. The New York Observer once described Karp as, ”tall and skinny, with unflinching blue eyes and a mop of brown hair. He speaks incredibly fast and in complete paragraphs.”

At 17, Karp moved to Tokyo to be the CTO of UrbanBaby. Upon returning to his home state of New York, Karp saw the need for a platform with the rise of short-form blogging—so he created one, launching Tumblr in 2007.

MIT has named him one of the Top Innovators in the World Under 35. TWF was lucky enough to watch David Karp be interviewed live at Decoded Fashion earlier this week, and we thought he was charming and adorable. We were also inspired by his quote, “push boundaries, blow minds.”
