Tech Crush Thursday: Christian MacLean
This Thursday, we are crushing on BeauCoo’s Co-founder and CEO, Christian MacLean. Christian watched his wife Victoria (also a Co-founder) spend hours online talking about fashion and brands with other women trying to determine if the items shown on the models would fit her body. That’s when he came up with the idea for BeauCoo, a social style network that aims to connect women with other women who share a similar body type in order to make online and offline shopping social, fun and realistic.
Based out of Calgary, Canada, the company originally launched on the iPhone and recently (as in this week) expanded to a full website. What’s really great about MacLean and the entire BeauCoo team is the focus on making shopping a positive experience. They want women to share and discover stores and styles that will “make them look and feel great.”
MacLean is now working on a BeauCoo Android app which they hope to launch in the next few weeks, as well as an API that will allow online vendors to use BeauCoo and its social network to improve content discovery on their sites.
For the time being, MacLean and the BeauCoo team are focused only on women shoppers (using Facebook Connect to keep men out). But they are considering allowing female members to invite their significant others to the service. As for a men’s version? Stay tuned.

Tech Crush Thursday: Lauren Santo Domingo

As New York Fashion Week comes to an end, we’re crushing on the woman who created a way to buy the pieces you love, immediately after they’ve walked down the runway.

Lauren Santo Domingo is the co-founder and creative director of Moda Operandi. Moda Operandi is one of THE online sources to view fashion shows and have backstage access to top designers. The site curates online exclusive trunk shows featuring full collections from top luxury designers, available months before anywhere else. Moda Operandi brings lines from the likes of Alexander Wang, Derek Lam, and Proenza Schouler to the fashionably-impatient.

Lauren Santo Domingo, or LSD as she is often referred to, is known as one of the most influential style setters. After graduating from the University of Southern California, LSD moved to New York seeking a career in fashion. Starting out as an assistant at Vogue, she eventually moved on to become Associate Market Editor for the magazine—now LSD is one of the contributing editors. After years at Vogue, LSD decided to enter the expanding fashion + tech space, founding Moda Operandi with partner Áslaug Magnúsdóttir. We love someone who can be so influential in fashion and also the tech world—oh, and who doesn’t even have to wash her own hair.

Watch Out Wednesday: Threadflip

Have you gone through your closet in an effort to “spring clean,” but now you’re not sure what to do with the pile of clothes and accessories you no longer have space for? Check out Threadflip, a social marketplace for buying, selling, and discovering pre-loved fashion. Users can upload photos of items from their closets and create their own online boutique. Threadflip was inspired by CEO Manik Singh’s wife, who didn’t want to give up a pair of her favorite boots that she no longer wore to e-bay or a consignment shop. Haven’t we all felt that way before? Threadflip is a more personal way to buy and/or sell fashion and keep your closet fresh and updated.

If you have items in your closet that are awesome but barely worn, or even still wearing their price tags (PS—we know you do), you absolutely must check out TWF’s latest interview with the co-founders of Poshmark!

The time is almost here! Karl Lagerfeld reportedly previewed his collection with this video at Europe’s Le Tech conference.

The line is set to debut on January 25th 2012, and it’ll be exclusive to Net-a-Porter.
